Thanks to “Some taxpayers”– as the letter from Oregon Department of Revenue begins– the case of the missing kicker check has been solved! Evidently, the error occurred on tax returns that were filed electronically (which mine was). There are several instructions on the government letter, but one of note is to write on the back of a copy of the front page of my 2006 tax return: “I certify that I did not check the box to donate my tax year 2006 kicker to the State School Fund.” Ha! It’s equivalent to throwing a virtual tantrum at the State. I can’t tell you how happy I am about this. I’m going to send all my documents tomorrow and, if I’m lucky, will finally get my kicker check by the end of February. I’m salivating over the frivolities to which that unexpected cash flow will go towards. Oh, p.s. I’ve reviewed my 2006 tax return form no less than ten times, and there’s no box. Coincidence? I think not. Okay, so I checked the form again, and the box is indeed there. And, guess what? There’s a [bleep]ing check mark on it! What the [bleep] was I thinking?! Sigh…
