BCC. Blind carbon copy.
It’s a nifty email trick that allows one to send the same message to multiple recipients without any of the recipients knowing who else received the message. This is a helpful measure to enhance privacy protection.
However, BCC-ing also refers to an act that involves a third party being copied on an email without the knowledge of the primary recipient(s). Usually, this is employed by the sender when he/she wants someone else– often his/her superior– to be privy to an email conversation he/she is having with the email’s primary recipient(s).
Some would argue that, in those cases, BCC can also be referred to as CYA. Cover your ass. Which may not necessarily be wrong.
