Happy Father’s Day!
Effin Exhausted
I got done a few hours ago from the ‘teardown’ of a venue for an event I threw last night and I am tired as hell. Hundreds of hours of planning and labor–not to mention an intense two-day ‘buildout’–went into a six-hour shindig at a 30,000 square foot warehouse that I’d converted into a chic space for my client’s “white party.” Here are some pics before the crowd arrived:
The plus sides: it was a hopping event and was very successful. According to the transportation company that handled the guests’ airport departures this morning, they were still abuzz about the party. (That and some of them were probably still literally buzzed this morning.) I got a cool note from my client this morning in which he stated that I’d exceeded his expectations and wants me to plan his next event. (”Show me the money!”) The downside: I am effin exhausted.
Oh, well. All in a day’s work, I guess.

There’s No Easy Way To Tell Someone That…
…they’ve got an ugly baby.

So, I just bite my tongue, pretend the baby is cute, and go on my merry way.

Fasting: Healthy for Body, Mind, and Spirit?
I recently read an article on Men’s Health magazine about 36-hour fasting having great health benefits. The author of the article wrote from experience and indicated that his ritual fasting–not done for religious reasons–has allowed him to maintain a better relationship with food and a healthy weight. In my constant quest for weight-loss tips and tricks, I was, of course, fascinated with the article.
I found this paper on fasting that further explained the physiological processes that take place during a fast. It also further reinforced fasting’s positive ramifications toward one’s health. Yet another source believes fasting helps enhance mental acuity.
Perhaps the most instructive testimony as to the acuteness of mental powers during fasting comes from Dr. Herbert Shelton who supervised the fasting of more than 40,000 people over a period of fifty years. His message is that the freer the body is of toxic materials flowing through the blood and lymphatic system, the clearer is the ability to think. [Full article...]
I’m seriously thinking about doing this now. For one, I’m excited about its weight-management benefits. For another, I’m curious about its claim toward improving mental clarity. G-d knows my memory retention skills can use a major boost.
What do you think about fasting? Is it worth it? What are your fears?

Best Burger in Town
I had the opportunity tonight to eat at Stanich’s (off of NE Fremont in Beaumont Village) and I am one satisfied customer. “The Special” burger, a delectable combination of the perfectly cooked medium-well patty, bacon, ham, fried egg, iceberg lettuce, tomato, onions, special sauce (*cough* Thousand Island dressing *cough*) was to die for. I would mean that literally if you happen to subsist on that monstrosity. And, it was a monster–I could not open my mouth wide enough to bite it. But when I started eating it, I couldn’t put it down. It was that good! Don’t bother even thinking about going to Stanich’s if you’re thinking about your health. Stanich’s was what “cheat nights” or “splurge days” were made for. And their French fries, though oily to the max (wow, where’d that 80’s phrase come from?), was worth every bite. If you ever feel like cheating on your diet or if you allow yourself a splurge night, go to Stanich’s. It’ll be worth tipping the scales over.

Dead Battery
At 530pm this evening, I needed to be somewhere that was 10 to 15 minutes driving distance from work so I left work at 515pm. Of course, as what often happens when one is in a hurry to get somewhere, a vehicle-related dilemma happens (i.e. low on gas, missing keys, etc.). In my case, this evening, it was a dead battery. It appears that I mistakenly left my headlights on after coming back from my lunch offsite. This meant over five hours of my car’s battery thinking, “Hmm, now when is he going to turn me off?” I was kicking myself for doing such a stupid thing. I had to call Security to have them jump my car. I made it to the spot by 6pm. I guess that’s not so bad, but I just hate having had to deal with a dead battery, especially knowing that it was my total complete fault that it happened.
I wish I could say this will never happen again, but I never say never. ![]()
