Sweet Breakfast Places in P-Town

Over the past several months, I’ve frequented other breakfast places over the Cup & Saucer, mostly to increase my repertoire, and explore uncharted territories. Of the breakfast places I’ve tried, here are my Top 3 (in order of radness):

Hungry Tiger Too (207 SE 12th) – This Southeast Portland location has an airy feel and doesn’t get too crowded. The open kitchen sits in the back between the restaurant portion and the bar area. Amid the bustling other breakfast locations in Portland on the weekends, the Hungry Tiger Too is almost an undiscovered oasis, offering traditional breakfast fare on-the-cheap and fairly quickly. The portions are also quite impressive. What’s cooler than having your meal served on two platters (such as their Chicken Fried Steak)? How about having a MySpace page of its own?

Jam on Hawthorne (2239 SE Hawthorne) – What this cafe lacks in space, it more than makes up for with its tasty fare. Decaf coffee drinkers get a cool-looking mug to help identify their affinity for a caffeine-free existence. Ty’s Big Breakfast is a popular choice among those with healthy appetites. The lines can often be a bit long, but at least you’ll have free coffee or water while you wait outside.

Original Hotcake & Steak House (1002 SE Powell) – Ah, this place always bring back memories of breakfasts consumed after a long night of bar hopping. It’s amazing to realize that the food is just as tasty sober as it is, well, not-quite-sober. The lines can be a bit long sometimes but the food (and the price) is worth it. Their three-egg omelets fill the oval plates as if they were made with five. And, their hashbrowns are to die for! Plus, how cool is it that your breakfast was made fresh by a bunch of ex-cons? Exactly.
