Elliott Yamin’s “How Do I Know?”

How Do I Know (with guitar tabs)

(Elliott Yamin)

Verses & Chorus:

D – A – Em – G

D – A – Em – G

Refrain:

Bm – G – D – A

Bm – G – A

Chorus:

3am, wide awake, you’re asleep, it feels like days

Yeah, since the last time that I held you

I can tell you’d been cryin’, never thought to ask you why

Oh no, I never meant to hurt you

REFRAIN

Is this the way that it goes when it’s falling apart

Maybe it’s time to let go

CHORUS

‘Cause what if the best is yet to come?

What if we’re broke but not undone?

What if we’re not what we’ve become?

How do I know, how do I know when it’s over?

What if I’m wrong?

What if we’re hanging on too long?

I don’t know which way to go.

How do I know, how do I know when it’s over?

Ooh-ooh, how do I know when it’s over?

Oh.

Pictures frozen in a frame, love feels like a losing game

Oh, I miss the way I used to miss you

And I know I’ll be alright without you in my life

Oh, but I just can’t say goodbye

Repeat CHORUS

Repeat REFRAIN

I don’t know which way to go

How do I know when it’s over

What if I’m wrong?

What if we’re hanging on too long?

I don’t know which way to go.

How do I know, how do I know that the best is yet to come?

What if we’re broke but not undone?

What if we’re not what we’ve become?

How do I know, how do I know when it’s over?

Ooh-ooh

How do I know when it’s over?

Oh-ooh

Repeat chord progession: D – A – Bm – G until end

A Little More Time

I know that life was never fair
But never did I complain
‘Though there were times I couldn’t bear
You were there to ease the pain
I walked along a crooked path
Hoping that you’d be there waiting for me
And now that I am on my own
I know that I am never all alone

Time passed away but I’m still waiting
I’m hoping that you’d give me
A little more time
Although I know my life is over
You know I’ll still be waiting
For you to give me
A little more time

And in my life I’ve done so well
To follow in all your ways
And into wrong I sometimes fell
But you saved me right away
I walked along the crooked path
Hoping that you’d be there waiting for me
And now that I am on my own
I know that I am never all alone

Time passed away but I’m still waiting
I’m hoping that you’d give me
A little more time
Although I know my life is over
You know I’ll still be waiting
For you to give me
A little more time

And now alone in the dark
I hear a voice in my heart
It’s telling me how could I be so blind
So now I won’t give up a fight
All I’ll do is follow the light
Into your arms, Lord
And leave the world behind

Although I know my life is over
You know I’ll still be waiting
For you to give me
A little more time.

My Muse Paid Me a Visit

For the first time in forever, I tickled the keys of my Young Chang upright over the last couple of days. It needs a tuning, but still sounds nearly as good as it did when I’d bought it nineteen years go.

[Begin tangent] Wow, I can’t believe I’ve owned this piano for that long. And it’s traveled everywhere with me. There are few nicks on its black lacquered finish but otherwise it’s in very good shape. I may finally have to part with it in a few months. But I may (or may not) share the reason behind on a separate post. [End of tangent].

I play by ear so most times I’m just messing around with chord progressions or maybe play any number of songs I’d written in the past or try to figure out the chords to an existing song.

These past couple of days, I’ve been toying with a new song. It’s got a pretty good melody and has a good progression from stanza to refrain to the chorus. I don’t have a bridge yet, and may not need one. I also don’t have any lyrics to it yet, but believe to have a pretty decent melody already.

Although lyrics writing is not my strong suit, I’m going to try to put some strings of words together today while my muse is still around.

Who knows? Maybe I won’t finish this song. Maybe I will.
